Rock On!

In 1993, mainly due to interest in Nirvana, I decided to buy a guitar and take lessons. A friend of mine who worked in a music store offered to help me pick out a guitar. After complaining that all of the guitars I held felt awkward (I kept flipping them over), it was determined that I played left-handed. Thus began the quest for a decent left-handed axe, none of which are too easy to find.

I soon located a low priced (read: cheap) cream colored Strat look-alike, and began taking lessons. Within 2 months I was playing almost all of Nirvana's album Nevermind. I decided to get a better guitar, and soon found a black, American Standard Fender Strat.

After a few more months, I met some people and we formed a little band. Over the years, we played a few gigs, changed a few members, and played instrument musical chairs. I took up the drums, bought a Yamaha Power-V drum set, and was a straight drummer for a while.

All during this time, I had been recording little riffs and writing short poems, and soon had enough material to write my own songs. I ditched the band, bought a Tascam 4-track recorder, and began writing and recording. In the year before I left for college, I completed and recorded 8 complete songs, and have numerous partial and/or non recorded songs, and 3 90-minute tapes full of individual riffs just waiting to be formed into songs. Someday...........

My first performance!

Here I am at 19, in my In Utero shirt I got at the New Year's Nirvana show. I was surprisingly relaxed.

"No Recess!!!"

Another performance. We were doing a cover of Nirvana's "School" in this photo. My hair is getting long.

New Guitar.

I made the mistake of using my rare Fender Mustang during this performance. It took me an hour to buff out the pick scratches

Little Drummer Boy.

I played the drums this time. This is a bit blurry, but hey, we're rockin' out.

Back to home.
