DAY 3

This was it. The big day. The DS party. However, since this was a celebrity party in none other than Hollywood, we needed to look even better than we usually do ;) So off to get haircuts and some new clothes! Our limo arrived in the morning and took us to the Frederic Fekkai salon in Beverly Hills. We checked in, and were given robes to wear during the haircuts. (We had to laugh at that.) We then went our separate ways as stylists ushered us from the chairs to the sinks and back. Back in my chair, after some consultation and a wash, the stylist started snipping away. After a few dabs of peroxide, he finished off the cut and did some flashy styling. I was quite pleased with my new look. Thanks Frederic!

We headed off to Nordstrom’s next, and picked out some snazzy duds for the party. My usual jeans and t-shirt gave way to Armani and Ralph Lauren. (OK, not really…but close.) A Nordstrom’s employee (who normally would have kicked us out for even being there) served as our personal shopper, and made several suggestions for shoes, shirts, and pants. After picking the outfits we liked best, we were chauffeured back to the hotel to get ready for the party.

At 9:00, the Hummer H2 arrived to pick us up. The driver was a really nice guy named Gil, who took a few pictures of us before bringing us to the party. When we got to the club (called “The Day After”), there was a huge line of people waiting to get in, and bouncers were turning people away left and right. We checked in, got our credentials (err…DS bracelets) and headed across the red carpet where about 20 photographers were snapping pictures.

We made our way up the stairs into the main club, and the party began. If you wanted to play the DS, this was the place to be. DS kiosks were everywhere, featuring games ranging from Mario 64 DS to Spiderman 2 to Madden DS. Beautiful DS girls were happy to show partygoers how to play the games, and even engage in some multiplayer challenges (that is, if they were worthy of challenging the DS girls—they were good!). The pictochats were going all night long; at times it was hard to find a room to chat in! There was also a pictochat dating game where a Calvin Klien model and three bachlorettes exchanged questions and answers via DS.

Next, the up and coming band The Killers took the stage for a set of rockin’ music. They lived up to their name, for sure. The crowd was packed so tightly around the stage that it was impossible to get to the other side of the room! The atmosphere was incredible—guitars screaming, crazy lights, people cheering—it was an amazing experience.

After the band finished its set around midnight, the crowd thinned out a little making it even easier to get to the DS game of your choice. LSMD and I played DS (we particularly liked Mario 64 DS) and talked with people until 2:30 AM. Right before we left, I met Chip, and NOA employee, and we discussed Nintendo for a little bit. (He told me lots of embarrassing stories about NOA Shaun, too!) Then Gil picked us up, and took us back to the hotel, where we chatted about the evening for another hour. It wasn’t easy getting to sleep after all that excitement.

The next day we flew back home. Although I was exhausted from three days of nonstop fun, I stayed up until 3:00 AM telling my friends about the experience. Thanks to Nintendo (especially Andy and Naomi) for making all this possible! It was great!

Back to home.
